Mirrors (metallic)


Metallic front surface and rear surface mirrors are used in image-forming systems for deflection of radiation. In particular front surface aluminizing thereby permits the avoidance of double images. Several overcoating materials such as Ag, Al, Au allow an ideal matching of the reflectance behaviour to certain spectral ranges and for special operating and ambient conditions. Dielectric protective coatings support additionally in determined matching of reflection height and centroid wavelength.

With complete dielectric coating systems the reflection maximum can be specifically further increased for a defined spectral range. Examples are high-performance laser mirrors for one or more wavelengths or broad-band mirrors with a very high reflectivity.
